The "Asiatic Flu" Pandemic (1889-1890):
Was first reported in May of 1889 in Bukhara, Russia. By October, it had reached Tomsk and the Caucasus. It rapidly spread west and hit North America in December 1889, South America in February-April 1890, India in February-March 1890, and Australia in March-April 1890.
Very high attack rate and very high rate of mortality.
The "Spanish Flu" Pandemic (1918-1919):
First hit North America in the spring of 1918. Then hit North America again, more strongly, in the fall and winter of that year.
Worldwide over 21 million people died of this influenza.
There is a great "Spanish Flu" site created by a student at Stanford University. If you really want to know more about this horrific pandemic, this is the site to go to.
